We have received reports that customers are being targeted by a series of fake text alerts coming from “Merrimack County Savings Bank” and other local banks. The message may ask you to verify a large purchase and provides a link to click for verification.
Do not click on this fake link! The link leads an unsuspecting consumer to a fake page spoofing the bank’s website, in an attempt to capture their online banking credentials. Once you enter those credentials, they are shared directly with the scammer.
If you have clicked a suspicious text message link, please contact us at 603.225.2793 immediately. We also advise that your phone is cleaned by a professional third party as it may be compromised.
We urge you never click on a suspicious link you receive by text or email. Do not reply to messages with sensitive information, such as your account number or online banking credentials. Doing so can place your account and identity at risk.
While The Merrimack does send fraud alerts through text message, we will never ask you to click on a link or request personal information.
Unfortunately, it has become very easy for scammers to pose as legitimate businesses by “spoofing” their contact information. We ask that you be careful and trust your gut—if something seems off, stop communication and contact us directly.
If you are a Merrimack customer and are concerned your personal or financial information was compromised, please call us directly at 603.225.2793.
