It’s that time of the year again, when scammers become IRS impersonators. This time, scammers are sending out email and text messages about your “tax refund” or “tax refund e-statement”. Although it may look legitimate, do not click any links.
Whether email or text, the message will include a link that supposedly leads to a form to fill out in order to get your refund. Once you click that link, scammers could steal your identity or install malware on your device, without you knowing.
The real IRS will never contact you by email, text message or social media to get your personal or financial information.
If you receive one of these suspicious messages, don’t click on any links. Instead, check the status of a pending refund on the official IRS website.
